Karen Dressler Argeanas

Artist's Statement ~ "I prefer to work with acrylic on canvas, using pencil sketches, memory, and photographs to produce scenes from New Mexico and throughout the Southwest. My goal is to capture the essence of a place, which lingers in your memory after the moment of actual presence has passed.  My paintings are based on actual places, although I paint the scene as I see it in my mind, and at times rearrange composites of the landscape to create the image.  My southwest landscapes are a reflection of my love for the outdoors. The old motels of Route 66 are another subject I paint.  With a background as a graphic designer, I am attracted to the signage and appreciate the uniqueness of the era of the “mom and pop” businesses of Route 66."
